Getting Your Home Ready for an Electric Vehicle
There are many reasons to consider an electric vehicle when it’s time for a new car. EVs can help save you money and reduce your environmental impact, and there are more options than ever to pick from.

Porsche Omaha is here to help you transition to alternative energy driving, including the following tips to prepare your home for EV ownership.
Consider Your Access
It’s essential to think about where you will be driving and, more specifically, parking your EV. If you park on the street or live in an apartment, you want to ensure that you have access to regular electric service. If you don’t have reliable electricity, you’ll want to purchase a reserved spot, if possible, or consider putting off the purchase of an EV until you have reliable access.
Think About Your Driving and Charging Needs
There are three different levels of EV charging. Level 1 charging uses standard household current but is very slow; Level 3 charging has too high a voltage for residential homes.
Level 2 chargers represent a happy medium, but they also pose challenges. Before considering installation, you’ll want to consider how often you’re driving, where there are charging stations on your route, and if the increased at-home charging capacity is worth the installation cost.
Get an Inspection
It’s also helpful to get a professional eye on your home before you begin the charging or installation process. Charging a vehicle puts a higher load on your home’s electrical system than the average appliance, and you want to verify that the system is up to the task. An electrician, or a qualified installer referred by our Porsche Center, can evaluate your home to see if installation is feasible.
