Are Tune-Ups an Outdated Porsche Service Task?

You probably know that routine maintenance is essential for keeping your Porsche in excellent condition. But should tune-ups still be included in regular Porsche service?

Porsche Omaha discusses this task and whether or not your car needs it.

What is a Tune-Up Exactly?

A basic tune-up involves making necessary adjustments to the carburetor, distributor, and ignition points. It may also include replacing the condenser and spark plugs. When tune-ups were common, the general recommendation was that your car should get one annually.

Why Tune-Ups May No Longer Apply

For the most part, tune-ups are now pretty antiquated because most vehicles built in the last 20 years don’t have a carburetor. Of course, if you own a classic Porsche model like a Porsche 356, it won’t have a fuel-injection system or electronic ignition and will still need a good old-fashioned tune-up.

The Better Way to Keep Your Car Healthy

The only part of the tune-up that your car still needs concerns the spark plugs. Generally, these last about 100,000 miles, so you may need to replace them at some point. Otherwise, adhering to a service schedule will maintain your car’s outstanding performance. This should include:

  • Fluid top-offs and tire pressure checks every two to three months
  • Oil changes and tire rotations every six months
  • Battery tests and brake inspections every year
  • Filter replacements every other year
